ITINERARY

Program of the day 08:00 am: You will be picked from the reception of your Lodge/Hotel in Livingstone in a comfortable and air-conditioned transfer vehicle by our driver and tour guide. Narration: Thereafter, you will leave for Kalomo town travelling up north on T-1 the main Livingstone - Lusaka tourist road of Zambia. It is a good tarmac road and you will cover a distance of about 128 kms. You will pass a small roadside town of Zimba on your way up north before reaching Kalomo. Mid morning: Arrive in Kalomo town, the first colonial capital city of the then Northern Rhodesia, current Zambia. 11:30 am: Enjoy a delicious meal break with healthy foods in Kalomo. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview of Kalomo In 1907 Kalomo became the capital of what was known as Northern-Western Rhodesia. In 1911 it became the capital of Northern Rhodesia, what is today called Zambia. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chronological order of events in Kalomo: a) You will drive through the Kalomo market, cross the railway line on a dusty Dudumwezi road heading in the western direction. After passing through the new government hospital, you will branch off the dusty road and head to the Pioneer Graveyard. This the grave site where some of the white colonial masters are buried. Thereafter, you will leave the Pioneer Graveyard, pass through one village for a cultural tour. You will see a genuine functioning rural village and observe their life style in real time. b) After a village tour, you will visit and tour the first state house of the colonial administrator of Northern-Western Rhodesia (now Zambia). Narration: The Administrator's house national monument-located in Kalomo Zambia, is a 116 years old house. It was the first home of the British South African Company (BSAco)'s administrator in charge of a territory back then called North-Western Rhodesia. It is believed the house served as present day Zambia's first state house. Depart for Choma Thereafter, you will depart for Choma and along the way about 3km north of Kalomo, on the main T-1 road see the Kalundu Mound. It is a slightly raised mound (a matter of just a few metres) of earth through which the road passes. This marks the site of an Iron-Age village, and the mound is the accumulated debris of many centuries of occupation. 15:30 pm – Arrive in Choma town Overview: Choma is a market town and is the provincial headquarters of Southern Province of Zambia. It lies on Zambia’s main T-1 tourist road and railway line about 285km from Lusaka and 188km from Livingstone. It is home to Choma museum and craft centre which is exclusively dedicated to the preservation and display of cultural heritage of the Tonga people of southern province of Zambia. Touring Choma Museum You will enter and tour the Choma Museum and the nearby Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula statue. 17:00 pm – Check in at any other good accommodation facility in Choma. 19:00 pm – 21:30 pm: Enjoy dinner. 21: 40 pm: Retire to bed to sleep. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note that the times of activities cited above may be varied to accommodate changed circumstances

After Rusangu juction, you will have a brief stop at Family Safari along the T-1 road. Here you will view wild animals including Lions in a private forest within the yard of Family Safari. There after, you will continue with the journey heading to Monze. Narration: Monze is an agriculture rural town with an estimated population of 163,578 people. You will pass through small village sidings along the way, namely Batoka , Muzoka, Pemba, Chisekesi, Rusangu in that order before arriving in Monze (Distance is 97.4 km from Choma). 12:30 pm: You will take your lunch break at any good restaurant in Monze. Pleasurable activity you will do in Monze You will visit the Samu Lya Moomba (meaning tree of the Horn bill) national heritage site outside Monze town in Bweengwa area, Chief CHOONGO’s chiefdom to see Zambia's deep cultural heritage. Narration: Samu Lya Moomba holds a special place in Zambia's history as it was the location some freedom fighters from across Zambia would meet to strategize on the attainment of Zambia's political independence. After an hour's tour of Samu Lya Moomba, you will then depart for Mazabuka, the next town after Monze. You will see large sugar plantations on the way near Mazabuka town. You will pass a number of small village siding settlements along the way to Mazabuka, approximately 72 kms from Monze. Narration: Arrive in Mazabuka, dubbed “The Sweetest Town” in Zambia. This is because sugar canes that are processed into edible household sugar are grown on a large scale in Mazabuka. You will then take a short snack break in Mazabuka before proceeding to Kafue town, the nearest town to Lusaka. Kafue Bridge At Turn Pike junction, we will stop for a few minutes to buy some fresh bananas. After passing through the turn pike turn off and joining the Kafue T-2 road leading to the police check point, you will be heading to the historical Kafue bridge. The Kafue bridge is the life blood of Zambia's economy which connects the country to Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and the rest of other Southern African countries.
