Tour Introduction

Your day begins with a convenient pick-up from your hotel or residence in Nairobi, followed by a short drive to the leafy suburb of Karen. The first stop is Ocean Sole, a creative recycling workshop where discarded flip-flops collected from beaches are transformed into colorful animal sculptures and playful works of art. During the visit, you’ll see how the sandals are cleaned, cut, layered, and carefully carved by artisans into vibrant pieces while learning about the organization’s environmental impact. The experience continues at Kazuri Beads Factory, a renowned fair-trade workshop that has empowered Kenyan women for decades. Here you’ll watch artisans hand-mold clay beads, fire them in kilns, and paint them with intricate designs before they are turned into beautiful jewelry pieces exported around the world. Next, you’ll visit Opportunity Factory, a social enterprise that supports local artisans by providing training and market access for handmade crafts. Visitors can explore a variety of handcrafted products including textiles, baskets, jewelry, and home décor while learning about the stories behind the artisans and their work. The final stop takes you to the colorful and artistic Kitengela Hot Glass, a famous glass-blowing studio known for transforming recycled glass into stunning decorative pieces. Here you can watch skilled artisans shape molten glass into beautiful creations and explore the vibrant studio grounds filled with mosaics, sculptures, and creative structures. After the studio visits, you’ll return to Nairobi with a deeper appreciation for Kenya’s creativity, sustainability efforts, and thriving artisan community.
